Providing modernization and security to internal processes resulting in a more secure, scalable, and reliable system.
Shield Leasing, which helps people with limited or no credit pay for new vehicle parts, had IntraEdge modernize its outdated application through a gradual move to microservices and containers on AWS, then outsourced the portal's development and upkeep.

About Shield Leasing
Shield Leasing runs a program that gives individuals with limited or no credit access to affordable payments for new vehicle parts. The program runs on a software application and customer portal that a previous vendor built. The document does not state the company's location or size. After IntraEdge's initial engagement on AWS architecture and infrastructure, Shield Leasing chose to outsource the complete development and maintenance of the portal to IntraEdge.

The challenge
Shield Leasing's program, which gives individuals with limited or no credit access to affordable payments for new vehicle parts, depended on an application that was outdated and lacked sufficient security measures. The system caused delays in delivery, and a backlog of customers built up as a result.
The company had enlisted a previous vendor to develop the initial application but was not satisfied with the result. Rather than continue with the same approach, Shield Leasing sought a partner capable of modernizing the current application and implementing additional security controls to ensure security, scalability and reliability.
Its goals were speed, modernization, security, reliability and scalability. The engagement also had to move quickly: customers were already backed up, and the existing application had to keep running while it was modernized.
The solution
IntraEdge began with an evaluation of Shield Leasing's existing application to identify areas for improvement, and proposed an alternative architecture. The assessment showed that the new approach did not require rewriting the existing application code. Instead, IntraEdge embarked on a gradual modernization of the application architecture, transitioning it to microservices and containers.
The platform runs on AWS. The technology stack listed for the project spans serverless and container compute (AWS Fargate, AWS Lambda, AWS Beanstalk), messaging and orchestration services (Step Functions, SQS, SNS, Kinesis), storage and query services (S3, Athena), monitoring and audit tooling (CloudWatch, X-Ray, CloudTrail) and governance and provisioning (AWS Control Tower, CloudFormation). The application layer uses PHP (Laravel), NodeJS and WordPress.
The architecture delivered high scalability, fault tolerance, robust security measures and minimal operational overhead, matching the goals Shield Leasing set at the outset. IntraEdge was initially engaged to build out the architecture and infrastructure on AWS. As trust developed, Shield Leasing chose to outsource the complete development and maintenance of its application portal to IntraEdge, which builds, enhances and maintains the portal with a lean team.
The results
- Gradual modernization to microservices and containers without rewriting the existing application code
- High scalability, fault tolerance, robust security measures and minimal operational overhead
- Engagement expanded from AWS architecture build-out to complete development and maintenance of the portal
- Application portal built, enhanced and maintained by a lean IntraEdge team
- Additional security controls implemented to address the outdated system's gaps
