E.R. Jahna Industries case study

About E.R. Jahna Industries

E.R. Jahna Industries is a Florida-based sand mining company and a leader in its field. Its products support construction, manufacturing and infrastructure customers across Florida and Southeast Georgia markets. The company runs with a small internal IT team led by IT Director Thomas Single, which limited its ability to keep pace with security and technology demands on its own.

The challenge

When Thomas Single joined E.R. Jahna Industries as IT Director and assessed the environment, he found the company falling behind in both security and technology. There was no Active Directory domain in place, and everyone had too much access. Single later said the assessment left him unable to sleep at night, waiting for what he called a ticking time bomb.

With limited internal resources and a small IT team, the company could not build and run a modern security program alone. It needed a trusted partner to elevate IT operations, protect its assets and take on ongoing responsibilities such as cybersecurity training and threat monitoring.

Cost and technology mattered, but Single made clear that the decision was primarily about relationship and trust. Thrive's reputation and its existing relationship with the company made it the partner he believed could get E.R. Jahna where it needed to be.

Thrive's team is at the top of their game. The handoff between the project and support teams was seamless, and every resource we worked with was professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with.

The solution

Thrive delivered a comprehensive IT and cybersecurity solution built around a multilayered security framework. The engagement began with building an Active Directory domain, which the company had never had. Thrive stood up the domain, migrated all of the company's PCs into it and, in Single's words, helped every step of the way.

Critical servers were migrated to Thrive's private cloud, and Thrive implemented detection and response systems to identify and neutralize threats. The document lists the services as Thrive Cloud with MDR and Managed Firewall, Enterprise Endpoint Protection, DNS Security, Advanced Email and Collaboration Security, Security Awareness Training and Phish Testing, and patching for servers and workstations.

Thrive also took over management of cybersecurity training for E.R. Jahna's employees. That relieved internal resources and provided better coverage through ongoing threat monitoring. Single noted that the handoff between Thrive's project and support teams was seamless and that every resource the company worked with was professional, knowledgeable and easy to work with.

The results

  • Active Directory domain established for the first time, with all PCs migrated and excessive access brought under control
  • Critical servers migrated to Thrive's private cloud, freeing internal resources for core business activities
  • Enhanced detection and response systems quickly neutralize potential threats
  • Cybersecurity training and phish testing now managed by Thrive, with ongoing threat monitoring
  • Issues are prevented before they become real problems, with a measurable impact on stability and efficiency
