From “First IT Hire” to Force Multiplier: How Rhone Partnered with Thrive to Scale Security
Rhone, a performance apparel brand, ran a security-focused RFP and chose Thrive as a force multiplier for its first in-house technology lead, eliminating inbox noise and later expanding into managed infrastructure and a modernized office network.

About Rhone
Rhone is a performance apparel brand made by and for people in the pursuit of progress. Its teams move fast and stay focused on customer experience, and the company runs on Google Workspace. Like many growing organizations, its pace eventually outgrew the way technology had been handled. Sean Duffy joined as its first technology person, as Director of Infrastructure and Security, and is now Senior Director of Technology.
The challenge
Rhone's growth had outpaced the way it handled technology. When Sean Duffy joined as Director of Infrastructure and Security, he was the first technology person in the business, a situation many scaling companies will recognize. The early environment reflected speed and simplicity: a new employee got a laptop and an email account, logged in and went on their way.
Leadership recognized that the company needed a more intentional approach. This was not a reaction to a crisis; it was about being responsible as the organization matured. Rhone wanted a reliable, repeatable way to protect the business and support employees without putting everything on one person's shoulders.
The company approached the search for a partner thoughtfully, running a request for proposal (RFP). The initial scope was broad, but the team deliberately reset and focused on the security space to make sure a robust security platform was in place first. The goal was not simply to buy tools but to gain depth and coverage that would have been difficult to build internally at the same speed.
Rhone wanted to build out a security program to secure the business, secure the data, really, to secure everything we have in the organization. Thrive is the partner we needed to make that happen.
The solution
Thrive rose to the top of the RFP because it matched Rhone's priorities and operating reality. In Duffy's assessment, Thrive stood out as having the most robust platform, and the partnership became a force multiplier for a one-person technology function. The engagement covers security, Google Workspace and managed infrastructure.
Delivery mattered as much as the solution. Thrive set out the project scope and timelines up front, so Rhone knew what it was getting into before onboarding started. Duffy describes the process as predictable and professional, with no surprises.
Email security was an early focus. Before the program, staff complaints about spam and phishing were familiar; after implementation, almost all of the noise in employees' inboxes disappeared. That visible change gave Duffy a metric and a KPI to show executive leadership that the program is working rather than being set and forgotten.
As Rhone's needs evolved, the relationship expanded naturally into managed infrastructure. Thrive helped modernize the office network with an approach that balanced speed, reliability and future growth, building a platform the company expects to grow with the business. Thrive's team acknowledges messages as they come in, so no one is left waiting and wondering, which Duffy cites as a reason the relationship feels like a genuine partnership.
