Navigating Smooth Waters: How Thrive Transformed Transmarine Navigation's IT Landscape
Transmarine Navigation, a Horizon Group port agency, turned to Thrive after an unexpected IT departure; Thrive stabilized support, then took on 24/7 network and security management, and CSAT scores tripled year over year.

About Transmarine Navigation
Transmarine Navigation is part of the Horizon Group and specializes in port agency management services, addressing the requirements of shipping companies globally. As a ship's agency, it acts as a vital service provider for ships entering and exiting ports, ensuring the seamless operation of cargo and port services throughout the maritime journey. The company works with global vendors whose requirements vary, which makes protecting its data and communications a central concern in the maritime and transportation sectors.
The challenge
Transmarine Navigation runs on tight coordination. As a ship's agency it keeps cargo and port services moving for vessels entering and exiting ports, and an interruption to its systems could have a destructive ripple effect across sea transport. When an IT staff member departed unexpectedly, the loss caused waves in daily operations and left a critical staffing gap.
The company needed to stabilize its day-to-day IT support quickly and give users a dependable way to reach technical help. It also faced growing security demands. Transmarine interacts with global vendors that carry varying requirements, and in that environment its network infrastructure, data and communications must be protected to a consistently high standard.
Rather than build internal teams and infrastructure for security and networking, Transmarine wanted a plug-and-play partner with proven effectiveness and knowledge in those fields, one that could ensure compliance on both the network and security fronts while its own team focused on serving clients.
Thrive's significant contribution was evident in our first Customer Satisfaction (CSAT) assessment, where we saw a remarkable improvement, tripling our scores from the previous year. This surge in satisfaction directly reflects Thrive's commitment to excellence and underscores their pivotal role in our vertical, particularly within the maritime and transportation sectors.
The solution
Thrive stepped in immediately to handle Transmarine's day-to-day service needs, helping to solidify processes for the IT team and bolster internal support operations. Thrive put together a support desk so users had a direct route to technical experts, and implemented the Microsoft 365 Admin Center to make administration more efficient and effective.
Once internal support was stable, Transmarine recognized that Thrive had more to offer in security and network management and chose to deepen the partnership. Thrive was engaged to optimize the IT infrastructure so it would be more efficient and secure, and shifted into the role of a 24/7 support partner for network and security, eventually passing the helpdesk back to the Transmarine team.
Thrive's familiarity with Transmarine's environment allowed it to implement the measures needed for compliance on the network and security fronts. The engagement spans managed infrastructure, cybersecurity, endpoint detection and response (EDR), vulnerability scanning and assessment, Microsoft 365 management, a 24x7x365 Security Operations Center, end-user support and vCISO advisory. Thrive also dug into Transmarine's legacy equipment, guided the assessment of existing assets and initiated firmware upgrades and enhancements, which led Transmarine to entrust it with managing hardware responsibilities.
The results
- Transmarine's first Customer Satisfaction (CSAT) assessment showed scores triple those of the previous year
