Boswell Oil fixes indoor cellular dead zones with Metro Wireless DAS

Customer story · Energy & Utilities

Two Buildings. Zero Dead Zones. One Network.

Boswell Oil, a Georgia petroleum distributor, had poor indoor cellular signal across all carriers at its office and warehouse. Metro Wireless designed and installed a Nextivity CEL-FI DAS, restoring full LTE/5G signal and E911 compliance in under four days.

About Boswell Oil Company

Since 1927, Boswell Oil Company has supplied Georgia's gas stations, manufacturers, private businesses and wholesalers with essential petroleum products. Beyond distribution, the company helps customers maintain fuel quality through water removal, filtration and ISOCLEAN solutions, and its owned fleet delivers petroleum products whenever and wherever they are needed. Its headquarters site comprises an office and a warehouse in two separate buildings.

The challenge

Boswell Oil faced persistent poor indoor cellular signal across all major carriers, Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T, in its headquarters office and warehouse. Employees experienced frequent dropped calls and slow data speeds, connectivity was inconsistent across multiple device types, and productivity suffered.

The problem was also a safety issue. The site's cellular coverage was non-compliant with E911 regulations, creating job-site safety risks, and signal was poorly distributed between the two separate on-site buildings.

Previous attempts by Boswell and other vendors to fix the problem had failed. WiFi Calling and a self-installed Distributed Antenna System (DAS) proved inconsistent and did not meet E911 standards, leaving employee communication and operational efficiency severely hindered. Recognising the need for a professional, reliable solution, a trusted partner referred the company to Metro Wireless for its expertise in commercial wireless solutions.

We had long struggled with poor indoor cellular coverage at my facility and had tried other solutions to no avail. We were immediately pleased with Metro's expertise, including leveraging software to build a custom design that would boost Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T. The installed solution was both right-sized and right-priced for our needs.

The solution

Metro Wireless, which specialises in boosting LTE/5G coverage across the major carriers, designed, integrated and now manages a Nextivity CEL-FI DAS solution for Boswell Oil, built to give seamless cellular coverage across all tier-1 mobile carriers in both buildings.

In the design phase, Metro Wireless performed an on-site survey and a current-state wireless grid test to understand the client's needs, environmental conditions and installation considerations. Using client-provided floor plans and iBwave, the industry-leading DAS design software, it created a predictive wireless design for optimal signal distribution and engineered a layout that connects the two buildings with minimal redundant cabling to reduce project spend.

In the integration phase, the team installed three roof-mounted donor antennas to capture outdoor cellular signal from the major carriers and multiple indoor server antennas to broadcast and redistribute that signal evenly through the office and warehouse. Integration was completed in under four business days solely by Metro Wireless's in-house team, followed by a post-install signal audit to validate the improvement in cell coverage.

The solution was deliberately right-sized for the client's needs, avoiding the expense of overbuilt stadium-grade systems. Metro Wireless's Network Operations Center now manages and monitors the system through the Nextivity CEL-FI cloud-based web portal, providing ongoing support.
