Boulder Dam Credit Union's Success with Cloud IBR
Boulder Dam Credit Union, a community financial institution in Boulder City, Nevada, replaced disaster recovery testing that took 90 hours per virtual machine with Cloud IBR, cutting recovery to under four hours and automating compliance-ready testing.

About Boulder Dam Credit Union (BDCU)
Founded in 1940 and serving the tight-knit community of Boulder City, Nevada, Boulder Dam Credit Union (BDCU) has been a cornerstone financial institution for decades. Known for its commitment to reliability and customer satisfaction, BDCU manages the financial needs of its members with a strong focus on operational excellence. As a small institution, it must balance cost and scalability with the need to keep members' access to their money uninterrupted.

The challenge
BDCU must ensure uninterrupted access to financial systems to maintain member trust and meet industry compliance requirements. Its previous disaster recovery (DR) testing showed how exposed it was: restoring a single virtual machine took 90 hours, far exceeding the credit union's 48-hour recovery time objective (RTO). For a community that needs quick, reliable access to its money, that gap posed both reputational and operational risks.
As a small institution, BDCU also had to weigh cost and scalability. It did not want to switch storage providers, which would have added complexity and disruption, so any new DR approach had to integrate with its existing Wasabi Object Storage. The credit union also needed its DR processes to align with cybersecurity and compliance requirements through consistent, reliable reporting.
BDCU's goals were to cut recovery times from days to hours, automate DR testing so that backup integrity was continuously confirmed, and simplify the quarterly compliance reporting that depended on it.
Cloud IBR's seamless integration with Wasabi and Veeam has been a game changer for us. Reducing recovery times from 90 hours to less than four ensures we meet our RTO goals and maintain the trust of members.
The solution
BDCU implemented Cloud IBR, a disaster recovery SaaS platform that works with the credit union's existing Veeam backups stored in Wasabi Object Storage. Because Cloud IBR integrates directly with Wasabi and Veeam, BDCU kept its storage provider and avoided the complexity and disruption of a migration.
The platform provides seamless failover to bare metal cloud infrastructure that is provisioned on demand and scales as needed. In a recovery scenario, BDCU's systems are restored onto that infrastructure in under four hours, bringing the credit union comfortably inside its 48-hour RTO.
Cloud IBR also automates recovery testing. Instead of a manual exercise that took 90 hours per virtual machine, the platform runs recovery tests and generates automated recovery reports. Those reports confirm that backups are ready whenever they are needed and give BDCU consistent, compliance-ready evidence for its quarterly reporting and annual risk assessments.
BDCU continues to collaborate with Cloud IBR on further optimizations to stay ahead in disaster recovery and compliance.
