About Capone Technology LLC

Capone Technology LLC is a small web hosting company based in Florida and California. Operating since 2013, it serves small businesses, marketing companies and movie studios with small-scale web hosting and web design services. The company runs with minimal employees and, before Volico, relied on a combination of self-hosting technology and Amazon cloud services. It had built a steady roster of clients, to the point that demand was outpacing its bandwidth and power capacity.

The challenge

As a small web hosting provider in Florida and California, Capone Technology was trying to compete with large-scale hosting companies and provide industry-level services without the bandwidth and power to back them. Budget restrictions had pushed the company toward self-hosting and Amazon cloud, but it was struggling to make that combination profitable. After months without the results it needed, demand for its services was outpacing its bandwidth and power capabilities.

In the company's early stages, self-hosting and Amazon cloud were adequate. As it grew and tried to reach larger clients and compete with more established rivals, the combination was no longer cost-effective, limiting profitability and hurting the user experience.

Capone Technology needed a data center solution with more bandwidth and power that still fit its budget. If the provider were too expensive, the gains would not outweigh the added cost. Its three criteria for a colocation data center were unbeatable uptime, 24/7 customer support and technical assistance, and cost-effectiveness, and it wanted a plan tailored to its needs without unnecessary add-on services.

Volico has allowed Capone Technology to compete with their competitors, become a name in the web hosting market without requiring us to break the bank to pay for the needed bandwidth and power.

The solution

After researching, interviewing and meeting with three leading hosting providers in the area, Capone Technology settled on Volico Data Center for its colocation needs. While each provider offered services that addressed the company's needs, none did so with the level of customer support and partnership Capone found at Volico. The decision came down to the cost-effectiveness of Volico's offer and its customer support.

Capone Technology procured a full 42U cabinet from Volico with 20 amps of 120V power and 10 Mbps of BGP bandwidth to improve on the services it had been getting from its existing solutions. Volico and Capone worked hand in hand to design and implement a service-level plan that increased bandwidth, offered reliable uptime and ensured disaster recovery without raising costs dramatically.

The added power and bandwidth let the company host its clients effectively while its daily Amazon hits grew from 10,000 to 50 million without any noticeable loss of power. Volico operates multiple data centers serving Miami-Dade, Broward and West Palm Beach counties that are HIPAA, SSAE16, SOC 2 Type II and NIST compliant, with Category 5 hurricane-resistant facilities and 2N+X redundant power and cooling infrastructure.

The results

  • Daily Amazon hits grew from 10,000 to around 50 million
  • Traffic loss fell from 20 percent to almost none, with significantly less downtime
  • Reduced IT management and maintenance costs after migrating servers to Volico
  • More customers, with increased sales and revenue since the switch
  • Capone Technology now competes with larger-scale providers for business
