About Conscious Solutions

For over 20 years, Conscious Solutions has helped law firms succeed online. Its team includes former law firm professionals alongside experts in marketing, journalism and engineering. The company supports firms of all sizes with digital marketing, designing websites, improving search rankings and running PPC campaigns to enhance a law firm's online presence. Its private cloud platform hosts and provides digital services for over 350 legal firms, including several major global top 200 players, so data security, uptime and compliance around data privacy and sovereignty are paramount.

The challenge

Given the sensitive nature of legal work, data security and uptime are paramount for Conscious Solutions and the law firms it serves. Previously, the company hosted its internal systems and client test sites in an in-house server room, connected through a single-fibre connection. Its October 2024 office move meant the entire technical environment had to be relocated without disrupting operations or client services.

Conscious Solutions needed a reliable and secure hosting solution that would carry it through the relocation and beyond. It required a robust infrastructure that could guarantee high availability, strong security measures and seamless connectivity, together with uninterrupted access to critical systems to maintain business continuity and uphold its service commitments to clients.

The principal requirements were a secure, always-available hosting environment; resilient network connectivity and power redundancy; and 24/7 access to critical infrastructure for its technical team. Because its clients are law firms, transparency and compliance around data privacy and sovereignty added further weight to the choice of hosting partner.

Our recent decision to migrate critical IT systems to nLighten's Bristol tier 3 data center has provided added reassurance to our clients as well as our business, while also freeing up more time to focus on developing new services.

Andy Osborne, Technical Director, Conscious Solutions

The solution

Conscious Solutions decided to deploy a full rack at nLighten's Bristol data centre. The 2,040 m² colocation facility is built to tier 3 standards and serves customers in and around Bristol as well as throughout the South West and Wales. Conveniently located for the city and with easy access to the M5 and M4 motorways, it offers power, cooling and security features along with multiple low-latency connectivity options.

The rack solution nLighten provided features dual diverse routed internet connectivity for improved network resilience, reliable power infrastructure with redundancy to ensure uninterrupted service, and 24/7 secure access for the Conscious Solutions technical team. The data centre also allows for seamless delivery and setup of new equipment, making it easier for the company to manage its infrastructure remotely.

The migration moved Conscious Solutions' critical IT systems out of the in-house server room and into a tier 3 environment, replacing the previous single-fibre setup with significantly improved resilience. Improved reporting tools give the company better insight into network and power usage, and the facility leaves room for future expansion, including hosting live production client websites and applications directly within the data centre. Justin Nesbitt, Managing Director of nLighten UK, said the company was very pleased that its Bristol data centre had been chosen to play a critical and strategic role in supporting Conscious Solutions' next phase of growth.
