The client is a leading national electrical firm powering a long-term remote construction project. The deployment spans 1,500 service trucks, more than 75 job trailers and a workforce of over 1,000 employees. Its teams depend on LTE data connectivity in three distinct usage models: fixed job trailers, service trucks that move between sites, and field teams working in harsh, remote environments.
The challenge
The company initially relied on a single cellular provider to deliver LTE data connectivity across all three of its usage models: job trailers, service trucks and field teams. That approach quickly revealed severe coverage limitations. No single provider could deliver consistent performance across every project location, and field teams had been falling back on satellite connectivity that proved unreliable.
Shifting to a multi-carrier strategy solved part of the coverage problem but introduced new complications. Devices moved constantly between job sites, trucks and field teams, and managing those devices across multiple carriers placed a heavy operational burden on IT.
The contractor needed a cost-effective, scalable and low-maintenance solution that would keep every trailer, truck and crew seamlessly connected while reducing IT overhead, on a project where connectivity gaps translated directly into delays and lost revenue.
The solution
Infinite Wireless (IW) delivered a fully integrated connectivity solution tailored to the company's mix of mobile and remote data needs, with a different form factor for each usage model and a single management layer across all of them.
For the construction trailers, IW deployed 4G vSIM-enabled routers that provide plug-and-play connectivity. The vSIM automatically connects each router to the strongest available network from more than 40 national LTE carriers, so service stays consistent without dependence on any single provider. Each service truck was equipped with a 4G/5G wireless hotspot, allowing mobile teams to stay securely connected to corporate systems from any location.
For field teams, IW replaced the unreliable satellite connectivity with rugged, weatherproof LTE routers that deliver reliable data service in harsh environments and support up to 1,000 team members simultaneously. Cloud-based monitoring and remote management gives the IT team centralised control over connectivity at every location, and automatic failover between carriers removes the need for manual intervention when a network degrades.
