About ENT Specialists

ENT Specialists is a medical provider whose physicians depend on continuous access to electronic medical records to see patients. The practice has since grown in new directions: it has onboarded new physicians, launched its FYSICAL Dizziness & Fall Prevention Center and is adding more locations. Operations Manager Debbie Joyce describes cloud and cybersecurity as critical to both the business and its patients, because in healthcare every minute counts.

The challenge

ENT Specialists was crippled by outdated servers. The practice faced daily operational problems that made it difficult for physicians to serve their patients. At times electronic medical records became completely inaccessible to providers. When that happened the practice had to close, and the business lost revenue.

The infrastructure problems were not limited to servers. Legacy firewalls offered limited security and visibility, and the network switching environment needed to be rebuilt on a stable foundation. As a healthcare provider, the practice also had to protect patient data and prepare its staff for phishing and other cyber threats.

ENT Specialists needed a solution that would stabilize its infrastructure quickly so that the business could run consistently and efficiently, and it turned to Thrive to design and deliver it.

Thrive's NextGen Cloud and Cybersecurity solutions are critical to our business and patients. Every minute counts in healthcare, and that's why we turned to Thrive to provide a swift, secure and innovative update to our IT infrastructure to ensure patient care isn't compromised.

The solution

Thrive started by stabilizing the foundation of the network. It replaced the switches in ENT Specialists' environment with all-new Meraki equipment, managed by Thrive's engineers under its Global Network Management service. Thrive also installed managed firewalls in place of the legacy firewalls, improving both security and visibility.

The outdated servers were virtualized, and the practice's medical records were moved off premises into the eClinicalWorks SaaS offering. ENT Specialists has continued to migrate more business-critical applications into ThriveCloud, Thrive's private cloud solution, and into an Office 365 environment.

To address the human side of security, ENT Specialists adopted Thrive's end user security services. Through Thrive's Security Team the practice receives monthly phishing tests and mandated quarterly cybersecurity awareness training for its employees.

The document lists the services delivered as Global Network Management, ThriveCloud, End User Security Training and Managed Firewall. The combination gave the practice a rebuilt, managed infrastructure designed so that patient care is not compromised by technology failures.

The results

  • Daily technological interruptions eliminated; physicians no longer fear losing access to medical records
  • Network rebuilt on new Meraki switches, with managed firewalls replacing legacy equipment
  • Servers virtualized and medical records moved into the eClinicalWorks SaaS platform
  • Business-critical applications continue to migrate into ThriveCloud and Office 365
  • Monthly phishing tests and quarterly security awareness training for all employees
  • Practice onboarded new physicians, launched the FYSICAL Dizziness & Fall Prevention Center and is adding locations
