Construction Company, Erland, Stays at the Forefront of their Industry with Thrive's Advanced IT and Security Solutions
Erland, a family-owned Massachusetts construction management firm with one IT staff member, has relied on Thrive for more than 20 years for cloud migration, Microsoft 365, backup, security training and 24x7x365 monitoring.

About Erland
Erland is a family-owned, Massachusetts-based construction management company. It delivers construction management services across the Academic, Corporate, Commercial, Advanced Technology/Life Sciences, Residential, Hospitality and Senior Living markets. The company has one IT resource on staff, IT Manager Bernadette Flaherty, who joined in 1999 without a technology background and grew into the role. Erland has worked with Thrive for more than 20 years.
The challenge
Erland wanted assurance that its technology was being managed securely and efficiently, in an industry not always known for investing in technology. With one IT resource on staff, the company recognized that managing every aspect of IT was not a one-person job and that it needed a partner to supplement the work being done internally.
Bernadette Flaherty became Erland's IT Manager after joining the company in 1999 with no technology background. She needed a provider she could trust with issues that might seem small to others but were significant to the business, and one that could take on necessary but tedious tasks such as license management.
The company's infrastructure also had to keep evolving. Physical servers meant exchanging tapes in the server room and waiting for parts when hardware failed. Meanwhile, the threat of data theft and system intrusion required the entire team, not just IT, to help protect the business the family had built.
We have a very good working relationship. We've been with Thrive for so long, it's almost like a friendship now. That's the way it should be, it's so much easier.
The solution
Thrive has been Erland's IT partner for more than 20 years, providing the systems, support and security that let the team meet project deadlines. Thrive was already familiar with Erland's environment from a previous Citrix project, which is why Flaherty, new to IT at the time, did not look anywhere else.
Migrations have been an ongoing part of the relationship: from Citrix to remote desktops, from Exchange to Office 365, and from physical servers to Thrive's cloud platform. Each step allowed Erland to keep investing in its business and its future. On the security side, Thrive recommended KnowBe4 cyber training, and online phish testing and security training now give leadership confidence that the whole team is actively helping to protect the business.
Thrive takes the burden of managing IT systems off Erland's shoulders. Day-to-day needs are monitored and managed in one place, with proactive monitoring, maintenance and mitigation backed by Thrive's 24x7x365 Network Operations Center. Thrive also handles tasks such as license management.
The document lists the services as Advisory Services, Backup, Cloud, Disaster Recovery, End User Support, Managed Infrastructure, Microsoft 365 and Security. Thrive's account manager and vCIO hold strategic planning sessions and regular meetings, respond promptly and take the time to understand Erland's needs.
