About A top 10 US healthcare system

The client is one of the ten largest health systems in the United States. It employs about 316,000 people and manages a mobile estate of roughly 110,000 data lines spread across multiple regions and locations. As a regulated healthcare organization, it must keep its mobile ecosystem compliant and its reporting consistent and reliable while controlling costs and supporting a large, distributed workforce with dependable device management.

The challenge

The health system wanted to simplify its mobile infrastructure by enabling end-user self-service, integrated reporting and centralized management across devices and locations. What it had instead was a decentralized mobile estate spread across multiple systems and regions and run largely on manual processes.

Managing that estate consumed thousands of staff hours. Because data lived in different systems, reports were inconsistent and unreliable, and user satisfaction suffered as a result.

The reporting gaps carried a more serious consequence for a healthcare organization: without consistent, reliable data on its 110,000 data lines, the health system was exposed to regulatory risk. It needed a single platform that could bring HR, device management, service management and carrier data together, produce dependable location-based reporting for every device, and reduce the manual effort of supporting a workforce of 316,000 employees.

The solution

The health system selected Sakon as the centralized platform to manage, orchestrate and support its device fleet. Sakon captured data from multiple systems, including HR, mobile device management (MDM), IT service management (ITSM) and carrier sources, to give the organization a central view of mobile usage and a basis for consistent, reliable reporting. The platform went live in under 90 days.

To simplify support, the health system also adopted Sakon's mobile app, which lets users help themselves and reduces the effort of managing and supporting mobile users. The engagement began with mobile devices, and the health system later used the Sakon platform to enable its Mac-as-a-Service initiative as well.

Sakon's software-as-a-service applications cover workflow management for corporate-owned and leased devices, expense management, sourcing management and inventory management. Alongside the software, Sakon provides managed services: automated onboarding and offboarding of users, devices and services; contract management; invoice validation and processing; integrated compliance reporting; and advanced mobile optimization. Together these delivered consistent location-based reporting for all devices and advanced compliance reporting that ensures data is delivered consistently, reliably and accurately.
