Duane Morris Lays Down the Law on their IT Environment
Duane Morris, a U.S. top 100 law firm with 900+ attorneys, used vCom Solutions to consolidate 150+ carrier invoices into one, move to SIP trunking and automate GL coding, saving $100,000 a year and cutting bill processing from 5 days to 3 hours.

About Duane Morris
Duane Morris is one of the top 100 law firms in the United States, with more than 900 attorneys globally. The firm has tripled in size over a decade through acquisitions and organic growth and now spans more than 29 locations. Renowned for using technology effectively, Duane Morris has maintained its collegial culture through global expansion, supported by a robust technology infrastructure it considers crucial to its success.

The challenge
Before partnering with vCom, Duane Morris grappled with a sprawling technology landscape spread across multiple offices, encompassing diverse technology products and a multitude of carriers. Its multi-site, multi-carrier network infrastructure kept expanding through both acquisitions and organic growth, with the organization eventually spanning more than 29 locations and over 800 devices.
Managing that complex environment meant handling more than 150 invoices each month, including general ledger (GL) coding and accounts payable posting. One person spent five days a month processing the firm's bills.
Obtaining visibility into technology spend and inventory was also a challenge, and troubleshooting and order management required coordination with various support teams. These complexities underscored the need for a streamlined, centralized solution that could optimize efficiency and control costs.
vCom helps us greatly streamline our own process and handle far more work with the same resources.
The solution
Duane Morris began a strategic partnership with vCom in 2004 to streamline its telecommunications and IT infrastructure. vCom first conducted a comprehensive review of the firm's carrier invoices, reducing more than 150 invoices to a single one and significantly simplifying billing. Working closely with then-CIO John Sroka and his team, vCom rolled out new local and long-distance services with minimal disruption to daily operations.
In 2014, vCom partnered with the firm's IT team to migrate all TDM-based infrastructure to SIP trunking as part of a global Unified Communications (UC) initiative. The upgrade implemented the latest technologies across all U.S. offices, improving reliability, scalability and cost-efficiency.
vCom also integrated Duane Morris' GL codes into vManager, its SaaS platform, automating cost allocation, chargebacks and accounts payable posting directly into the firm's accounting software and saving hours of manual work each month. Working with the firm's CEO and team, vCom brought all mobile expenditures into vManager as well, automating user notifications and providing monthly optimization reports and recommendations to keep mobile spend in check.
Alongside these initiatives, vCom helps manage the firm's network infrastructure and circuits to keep connectivity seamless and circuit performance optimized.
