About A 16-hospital health system
The client is a healthcare organization operating 16 hospitals with 36,000 employees and an annual telecom spend of about $14 million. It had grown through mergers and acquisitions and had experienced turnover in IT personnel, which left its telecom record-keeping out of date. The system had not performed a telecom audit in 12 years before engaging Advantix. The case study does not name the organization.
The challenge
The hospital system was spending about $14 million a year on telecom services, and the cost of its legacy services was increasing. The organization had been through mergers and acquisitions, and it had experienced turnover in IT personnel along the way. Together these changes left it without a clear picture of what it was paying for.
Record-keeping had fallen out of date, and the organization had not performed a telecom audit in 12 years. Without a current inventory of billed services, the system had no reliable way to tell which products, services and features were still in use, which had been left running, and whether its bills were accurate.
The organization needed an accurate picture of its fixed telecom estate before it could reduce costs, recover money for billing errors, or plan future network changes with confidence.
The solution
Advantix Solutions' experts began by building a comprehensive inventory of every telecom solution the hospital system was being billed for. They then analyzed the client's technology and its utilization against that inventory and drafted an optimization plan.
The audit uncovered many unused products, services and features that were still being billed. Advantix had them canceled, and it identified billing errors that were recovered as $750K in one-time credits.
Where services were still needed, Advantix evaluated whether they were the right fit at the right price. Much of the client's telecom infrastructure was replaced with best-in-class solutions at lower prices, lowering the system's total cost of ownership. Advantix achieved the savings without having to change many of the client's providers.
The engagement left the hospital system with an accurate inventory of its current telecom spend and a documented post-audit environment that supports future network road mapping and requests for proposal (RFPs).
The results
- $5.2M in annual telecom savings without having to change many providers
- $750K in one-time credits recovered for billing errors
- Many unused products, services and features discovered and canceled
