About Cameron Mitchell Restaurants

Cameron Mitchell Restaurants is a nationally renowned restaurant group known for providing memorable dining experiences across 74 unique, high-end locations in the United States, including Ocean Prime in Fort Lauderdale. The group has expanded rapidly and relies increasingly on digital tools, guest Wi-Fi and a wireless-first Toast point-of-sale system. Its IT function is led by Orlando Sprockel, Senior Director of IT, who oversees a distributed environment where every restaurant has a different layout and demand profile.

The challenge

Cameron Mitchell's existing network was built on Cisco Meraki access points, firewalls and small-business switches. As the group grew and moved from a wired, on-premises point-of-sale system to Toast, which is wireless-first and needs dependable Wi-Fi coverage, that infrastructure struggled to keep up. In particular, the team could not do fine-grained configuration between access points, which mattered more as the business evolved.

Wi-Fi performance was inconsistent. Restaurants vary in layout and demand, producing patchy coverage and interference, and in some high-traffic locations the signal unintentionally reached people outside the venue. Managing 74 distributed sites also demanded round-the-clock responsiveness that strained the internal IT team, and Cisco did not offer a way to co-manage the network equipment.

Cybersecurity added further pressure. Without dedicated security expertise, the team faced rising risk from alerts and potential vulnerabilities, and a mixed vendor ecosystem made configuration and troubleshooting more complex. Cameron Mitchell needed a consistent, secure and flexible network foundation that could scale with continued growth.

It's not just plug-and-play. We can customize everything for each restaurant. And with Logically and Extreme, we're never flying blind—we always have the tools, support, and visibility we need.

The solution

Cameron Mitchell partnered with managed services provider Logically to design and execute a full network and security transformation across all 74 locations, built on Extreme Networks switches and access points for performance and SonicWall firewalls for security.

The group is transitioning from Cisco Meraki to a standardized, cloud-managed Extreme environment. Wi-Fi 6 access points are tailored to each restaurant's floor plan, giving reliable coverage for associates' handheld devices while allowing power and coverage to be tuned so that patios are served without spilling Wi-Fi to nearby boats or guests outside the venue. Extreme switches provide reliable, scalable wired performance, ExtremeCloud IQ delivers centralized management, and Predictive AP Analytics guides access point placement to minimize dead zones and signal bleed, such as Wi-Fi from Ocean Prime in Fort Lauderdale reaching boats in the marina.

Extreme's open architecture and Logically's hands-on support enable co-management at scale. Each location has custom VLANs and policies, both teams share a centralized network runbook, and Logically handles daily operations while Orlando Sprockel's team keeps strategic control.

Aging firewalls were replaced with SonicWall TZ 470s for advanced threat protection and improved alert management. Logically configured the firewall rules and coordinated with third-party platforms, including Toast, to ensure PCI compliance across the enterprise, backed by 24/7 support.

The results

  • Unified network infrastructure across all 74 restaurant locations
  • Better Wi-Fi performance, improving guest experience, satisfaction and revenue
  • Faster incident response with 24/7 support from Logically
  • Reduced downtime and streamlined vendor management
  • Improved cybersecurity posture and PCI compliance confidence, with seamless Toast integration
  • Granular wireless control that balances operational connectivity with security and guest boundaries
