Bandwidth IG — renamed BIG Fiber in May 2026 — is a metro dark fiber provider founded in June 2019 and headquartered in Sunnyvale (San Jose), California. It designs and builds 100% buried, high-count dark fiber networks intentionally routed for low latency and route diversity across the San Francisco Bay Area, Greater Atlanta, and Greater Portland. Its Bay Area network spans 167+ route miles and ~289,000 fiber miles on-net to 65+ data centers (including a newly built high-count subsea cable under San Francisco Bay — the first laid for communications in over 20 years), with additional networks in Atlanta (~64 route miles) and Portland (~12 route miles). Customers are data center operators, hyperscalers, carriers, and enterprises. The company is led by CEO James Nolte (ex-AGL Networks/Zayo) and is majority owned by PE firm Columbia Capital, with SDC Capital Partners (2020) and other infrastructure investors (e.g., Stonepeak, La Caisse) holding stakes.
