Through managed enterprise mobility and a planned digital transformation, Rotech achieves better patient outcomes.
Rotech Healthcare, a national home medical equipment provider with 325+ locations, deployed MetTel-managed Samsung 4G tablets with MDM and the UC-One app, lifting daily patient visits from five to 12, a 140% increase.

About Rotech Healthcare
Rotech Healthcare is a national leader in respiratory and sleep apnea treatment and home medical equipment. Through its family of hometown companies, more than 3,000 employees serve patients from over 325 locations across the United States, delivering customer service and quality patient care. Rotech ensures patients receive the medical equipment and devices vital to better outcomes, using secure and cost-effective delivery systems, and has been a MetTel customer since 2016.

The challenge
Rotech needed to improve efficiency to meet rising patient demand. Its field operations still relied on paper-based processes and manual log sheets, and technicians worked with outdated devices. Problematic legacy systems, inefficient back-end operations, a lack of interoperability, and delayed payments added to the strain.
Rotech's CIO, Mesha Sookdeo, summarized the situation: "Prior to our engagement with MetTel, we faced a number of challenges. Paper-based processes, problematic legacy systems, inefficient back-end operations, a lack of interoperability, and delayed payments."
On the telecom side, the company dealt with multiple carriers, invoices, and contracts, and it had no useful routing software to help drivers plan their daily routes. With 325 locations and a large mobile workforce, Rotech needed a scalable, secure mobility program that could standardize processes, protect patient healthcare data under HIPAA, and free technicians to see more patients.
The result has been an increase in productivity, better resource allocation and improved service to our patient and institutional customers.
The solution
MetTel deployed more than 700 customized Samsung tablets with 4G wireless service to Rotech's field technicians. With a single device, drivers can make hands-free calls to patients to confirm appointments, navigate their daily route more efficiently, and complete paperwork electronically.
Each tablet was pre-kitted and staged by MetTel so end users had everything they needed straight from the box, including Bluetooth headsets. Devices were staged with AirWatch mobile device management (MDM), which locks each device in line with HIPAA regulations and enables remote management for simpler ongoing support. MetTel also preloaded its UC-One app, which lets drivers call patients directly from the tablet with one touch, keeping them safer on the move.
MetTel's communication management platform, Bruin, manages inventory, usage, spend, reporting, and repairs, giving Rotech an end-to-end system that is standardized and streamlined. MetTel fully monitors and maintains the device lifecycle management technology and deploys, configures, manages, supports, and secures all devices. As Sookdeo put it, Rotech has "digitally standardized processes across the board and integrated stringent security measures to protect our patients' healthcare data," and is now transforming all aspects of its front-end and back-office operations.
